The CDDA is proud to announce that the first member of the month for the year 2024 is Vital Drilling.
Vital Drilling was established in 2012, and since then, has grown to 21 drill rigs strategically positioned throughout the country, operating up to 13 concurrently. They have been the exclusive contractor for mining houses such as DeBeers Canada and Corazon Mining with work being done nationwide for over a decade now.
Their Founder and CEO, George Demers has worked in the drilling services industry since 1985. Began his career as a helper, then advanced to driller and inevitably moved onward to senior management positions with various companies. George has worked around the world, taking on multiple drilling disciplines on surface as well as underground. As a current member of the CDDA, and having been past president for two terms, Mr. Demers values the importance of safety and environment stewardship.
Since the start, they’ve actively been working coast to coast in Canada, completing as they state; “the ‘tough’ jobs other contractor’s shy away from.” They have drilled in the Northwest Territories/Nunavut’s remote areas, where they were faced with the challenges of drilling in permafrost and arctic conditions. In addition to their national work, they’ve also recently completed work in Jamaica and Guatemala. In addition to that, their senior management and crews have extensive experience in the following countries: Brazil, Chile, Burkina Faso, Czech Republic, Columbia, DRC, Ecuador, French Guiana, Ghana, Greece, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Mongolia, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Surinam, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, U.S.A. and even Zambia.
Vital Drilling recognizes the importance of promoting safety in the industry. They noted Safety is promoted through training and coaching and mentoring the crews at all levels with positive leadership. From the basics in toolbox talks to working hand and hand with the workers and worker representatives by listening to the suggestion to improve their workplace and promote positive structure to ensure safety at work and at home. They encourage and involve employees in the development and implementation of safety protocol, policies, and JSA/SOP. Furthermore, continued effort to improve and build a sustainable future with their employees.
Vital Drilling specifically touched on their work as a smaller company:”Being a smaller company where we build better work culture and friendship amongst the team. Most crew member have an invested interest in ensuring the success of the company. While working at Vital Drilling, we work hard to equip the drill with the necessary tools and experienced crews to provide you with maximum efficiency, safety, and protection of the environment. Our reputation is something we thrive to uphold and continuously improve upon. We believe in promoting ourselves through our core values for our team and for our clients.”
